Hi there,

Since I do not feel quite comfortable with somebody's post, I want to state
some of my points for the proper response.

First of all, I carefully read the article today. This article is not as
somebody said not worthwhile being responded. It is actually attacking our
community as a whole and hurting feeling of us all. It is a paper filled
with anger and hatred. I am wondering that she was failed by some Chinese TA
in some course (kidding).

Then when we read through it, the absurd logic is just about this: China (or
Chinese) does not observe human rights; China invaded Tibet in 1949 and will
invade Taiwan soon; China invested in Sudan and aided, the country labeled
"Genocide"; So China is not eligible for Olympic Games. Do you think this is
logical? Perhaps not. But will this be accepted by Americans? Mmm, quite
possible.  (And if you work with your American friends here, you can see how
many copies of the Daily might be distributed during class.) Take a look at
the wording she was using in the article. Just as some of us pointed out,
she was there (in Tiananmen and Tibet) and saw what was going on.

So I think the decent response should include the response to the points she
mentioned in her article. For some of the part including Taiwan, we can play
it off a little bit. We Chinese/Taiwanese people are sensitive to talk about
this issue and it might be good just don't mention too much to hurt each
other. But for Tibet, perhaps we can state more clearly about the history
there. There is nothing that you should avoid. If it is true, why tell your
American friends and let them know. It might be more convincing than her
arrogant preconception in today's Barometer.

And moreover, it certainly should not be political. And we certainly can do
that, just as we can make decent response to any personal attack. We are
common people here and we certainly do not want to take any impact for our
community. Even if Americans deem the Chinese government did something
wrong, why should our Chinese people be blamed for what they did in the
past?!  I do think we need response timely and decently. And please remember
we need get our voice be heard. Who cares about politics! If you get
offended, why speak it loud?! If you do not say anything, nobody knows. (My
point: direct to the points with your documents, perhaps documentaries about
history are good; forget about the expo about Olympics and China, that's off
the topic!)

That is my idea! Sorry for the tone I use today. Too much for some of you,
hehe. Hope not hurt anybody's feeling. Now, go back to work.

Best,

Wenchao
