Dear OSU international student,

International Student Advising and Services (ISAS) is hosting three Post-OPT and H-1B Visa Information Sessions. Each session will cover the same information so please feel free to come to whichever works best with your schedule.

Monday, October 7th from 4:00-5:30 pm in Gleeson Hall Room 100

Tuesday, October 8th from 4:00-5:30 pm in Bexell Hall Room 103

Thursday, October 10th from 6:00-7:30 pm in the ILLC Auditorium

We are pleased to announce that we have two immigration attorneys coming to the OSU campus this week. Mr. David Ware and Mr. Art Serratelli, who are both nationally renowned immigration attorneys will present information on the H-1B visas and other post-OPT employment options related to international students’ immigration status.  This general, introductory meeting is offered for OSU international students, scholars and community members who are interested in learning more about employment options for non-immigrants to the U.S.  It will cover topics related to obtaining the H‐1B visa such as the following:
Employee eligibility criteria
Employer’s role
Types of jobs appropriate for H‐1B
Salary guidelines
Application timing issues
Updates on pending legislation
Options for F‐1 or J‐1 students and scholars

Description:
The H‐1B is an employer‐sponsored, non‐immigrant category which allows persons who are non‐citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. to work for up to six years in a specialty occupation. The employer must apply for the H‐1B on behalf of the prospective H‐1B employee through the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Because the procedures and record keeping required for the H‐1B are complex, an attorney or other trained person will be necessary to complete the paperwork.

Note: This meeting is NOT designed to explain how a person can apply for the H‐1B him‐or herself. This meeting is also NOT designed for individuals who will be hired at OSU in H‐1B status.

Best wishes,

ISAS staff
